Girls Ghulkhane
South of Kabul | Extension school building 2018
The Ghulkhane school is situated in the 6. district of Kabul. In this district live many Afghan returnee families, coming from exile abroad or insecure provinces within the country. The existing school building has been built some years ago and is not fully developed yet with 16 classrooms. Ghulkhane School leads to an intermediate certificate from the first to the ninth grade. At this time, the mixed school-Ghulkhane-teaches about 3,200 girls and about 2,300 boys with 104 female and 54 male teachers, in two to three shifts, partly in the open or in tents in varying weather conditions.
In November 2016, the building department of the Afghan Ministry of Education has asked the IAWA in an official letter to develop the second floor of the school, so that a part of the pupils, (in the new classrooms on the second floor), could be taught under better conditions. With the financial support of the sponsors and the BMZ, the IAWA began construction work on the second floor in July 2017 with the Afghan construction company, according to the construction plans. In April 2018, the second floor had been also completed and was inaugurated in the presence of the Minister of Education. He awarded Mrs. Noor prizes for her tireless engagement. In this school, 2,500 girls are taught.
