On the initiative of 10 Afghan women, the Association was founded in October 2002: We founded the Independent Afghan Women Association in order to contribute directly and first-hand, collectively and with the help of many others, to the rebuilding of our devastated country
Multiplicity of cultures
Afghanistan is a multicultural state and has always been a pluralistic society. Through information and education we attempt to revive the view that such multiplicity is a bonus. Women are the foundation and the center of the Afghan family, which, in turn, is the basis of Afghan society. Therefore, we want to promote democratization and peace in our ravaged country through our work with and for women.
Who are we today?
We are a group of people who are interested in Afghanistan. We come from various countries and cultures and, always keeping Afghanistan in thought and mind, are committed to bringing its distinctive culture closer to the German people.
We were able to engage the wife of the former mayor of Bremen, Luise Scherf, as our patron.
